Summary
Description
To support this project, funding is sought through amateur athlete sponsorship contracts to restore a trimaran for ocean racing and begin regular participation in national and international offshore sail races.
This specific boat was built in the early 1970s at the “Nuova Artigialnautica” shipyard in Fiumicino for a pilot, using laminated wood planking and a mast imported from the U.S. It sailed along the coasts of Lazio and Tuscany before being returned to the shipyard for uncompleted modifications. After the owner’s death, the boat was abandoned by heirs.
Despite its age, the hull design—featuring slim profiles and minimal wetted surface—ensures competitiveness against modern hulls. The robust structure also withstands the intense stresses of racing.
The boat’s professional construction and current location at its original shipyard—a small Italian yard specializing in wooden boats since 1970—add value to its restoration.
Restoration efforts will prioritize sustainability, including renewable energy systems and full electrification to eliminate fossil fuel dependence.
Sponsorship Usage
For the first year, funding will cover:
- Purchase and outfitting of the boat, safety equipment, and instrumentation.
- International safety and survival courses to qualify for offshore competitions (World Sailing – Offshore Special Regulations).
- Entry fees, travel, race participation, and insurance for the boat and crew.
In subsequent years, based on accumulated experience, improvements to the boat’s performance will be evaluated, including potential modifications to the rigging or appendages. Safety updates will remain a priority.
Key figures for sponsors
Sponsorship in sports, particularly sailing competitions, represents one of the best medium- to long-term marketing strategies, allowing companies to increase brand visibility from local to international levels.
The world of sailing and regattas has attracted growing interest over the decades, captivating people with its themes of freedom and adventure. Brand visibility on sails, hulls, and crew uniforms strongly ties a company to this imagery, enhancing memorability. This creates a win-win strategy: companies gain exposure, while athletes secure the funds needed to compete at a high level.
